AK Medicaid Program

Medicaid providers health coverage and long term care services for low-income Alaskans. Medicaid serves Alaska’s most vulnerable: children, seniors, people with disabilities, pregnant women, and very low income or working poor.  208,984 people are covered by Medicaid in Alaska (Nov. 30, 2019) This includes 48,150 covered by Medicaid expansion. Over the past 5 years enrollment in Medicaid has increased due to Alaska’s economic recession and Medicaid expansion. However State general fund spending has remained flat while federal spending has increased. Alaska has been able to provide health care to more people in need for little additional cost.
