Peer Review Services
ASHNHA has partnered with the newly formed Washington Hospital Services, Health Care Quality Services division (WHS) to provide Alaska CAHs health care quality services on a contractual basis. This includes peer review, survey preparation, and consulting services. WHS has over 10 years of experience providing general and subspecialty peer review for CAHs in Washington State. We’ve received excellent feedback from Alaska CAHs who have contracted with them in the past when they were known as the Rural Healthcare Quality Network. If your hospital is interested in chart review or would like to schedule an on-site visit, please contact Elizabeth Evans, Health Quality Services Manager for a pricing chart. She can be contacted at (206) 216-2550 or [email protected] ASHNHA has a business agreement with WHS and 5% of the gross revenues from their work with Alaska CAHs will be paid to ASHNHA which will in turn be placed in the Small Hospital R&D fund. Their website is http://www.wahospitalservices.com/
Swing Bed Webinar Series
ASHNHA has partnered with Colorado Rural Health Center to provide a webinar series on Swing Bed usage and Utilization Management (UM) and Utilization Review (UR) in Critical Access Hospitals. Utilizing swing beds in Critical Access Hospitals provides a viable option at the local community level for patients in need of skilled care. Additionally, swing bed usage for rehabilitation can strengthen relationships between Critical Access Hospitals and larger tertiary facilities subject to Inpatient Rehab Facility rules that limit treatment for specified conditions. All hospitals, including CAHs, must have a UM/UR Plan that describes the process used to review all services provided by the institution and by the members of the medical staff. In addition to assuring optimal healthcare delivery and positive patient outcomes, sound UM/UR practices are integral to achieving successful results during activities such as RA audits. If you are a small hospital interested in the webinar recordings or manuals please email [email protected] for the links or more information.
HCAHPS Webinar Series
ASHNHA sponsors a 12 part HCAHPS webinar series which is available to all Alaska Hospitals. For access to these webinars or recordings please contact Debbie at [email protected].

Medicare Boot Camp—Hospital Version (5 days) prepares you to better manage your revenue cycle and government audits by focusing on real guidance from CMS. This course allows you to make improvements that will strengthen reimbursement and compliance for your hospital or health system and gives you the research tools and skills to answer your own Medicare questions long after the Boot Camp is over.
Medicare Boot Camp—Critical Access Hospital Version (3 days) is a three-day intensive course on Medicare coverage, billing, coding, and payment for critical access hospitals. It gives you the knowledge and tools to find the answers to your most pressing Medicare coding, billing, and reimbursement questions pertaining to this unique setting. This is the only training that includes Swing Beds.
Medicare Boot Camp®–Long-Term Care Version (4 days) covers the latest Medicare rules and regulations so that you can help your facility provide quality resident care, bill appropriately for services, and prevent payment denials.
MDS 3.0 Boot Camp: Beyond the Basics (3 days) will establish the MDS 3.0 as the core driver of your clinical and business decisions. Your interdisciplinary team will learn to improve processes, enhance communication, and execute clinical pathways to achieve premium person-centered care, quality outcomes, and accurate payment.

UpToDate Group Purchase
ASHNHA has set up a group purchasing agreement for UpToDate, a web-based clinical decision support system.
